The Wichita Chamber Chorale has sung an active schedule of performances in South Central Kansas for the more than 30 years, involving many of the area’s finest singers.
Members of the Chorale must audition every two years. The next all-choir auditions will be held in August 2013.
As occasional vacancies occur between regularly scheduled auditions, qualified singers interested in being considered are always welcome to contact the Director and inquire about a possible audition.
Audition Requirements
You will be required to sing a song or aria of your choice that demonstrates the quality of your voice and musicianship. Your selection should be approximately 2-3 minutes in length, or if it is longer, you may be asked to perform a portion of the piece. An accompanist will be provided. You will also be asked to vocalize to demonstrate range and aural/sight-singing skills. The audition will last about 7 minutes. The Wichita Chamber Chorale Artistic Director and Personnel Manager will be considering the following when determining membership:
Regular members exhibit the highest caliber of vocal capability, musicianship and experience. Associate members exhibit less-advanced vocal and musicianship skills at the time of audition. At the audition, singers will be evaluated and scored in each of the following areas:
- Vocal amplitude and endurance
- Vocal range
- Ability to be flexible with vocal color/weight (eg. vibrato vs. minimal vibrato/straight tone)
- Performance demeanor and communication abilities
- Sight-reading and aural skills
- Record of exemplary performance and commitment in choirs and musical activities
Wichita Chamber Chorale Membership Guidelines
- All singers audition every two years
- Following the audition, all singers will be invited to join one of two categories of membership: “Regular” and “Associate.” Regular members exhibit the highest caliber of vocal capability, musicianship and experience. Associate members exhibit less-advanced vocal and musicianship skills at the time of audition.
- Through subsequent auditions a singer may move from Associate to Regular, or vice versa.
- Regular members are given preference for the formation of the choir each season. In order to achieve part balance, an Associate member may participate in the ‘regular’ choir, but this would not alter their status.
- Associate members will perform with the choir for concerts that require larger choral forces, and at Cabaret.
- Auditions for new singers will be held every two years in the Fall, at which time a singer is assigned to a category, and called upon to perform as needed.
