The Wichita Chamber Chorale will open its 33rd season with “Sounding Joy: A Concert of Christmas Classics.” Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at West Heights United Methodist Church, 745 N. Westlink, Wichita; and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 202 N. Clifton Ave., Wichita.
The concert, the first for the Chorale under the direction of Artistic Director and Conductor Mark Bartel, will feature works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Handel and Palestrina, as well as 20th century pieces by Stephen Paulus, Healy Willan and Morten Lauridsen.
‘The Wichita Chamber Chorale is lauded as Wichita’s premiere choral ensemble. Bartel also teaches at Friends University, where he conducts the acclaimed Singing Quakers and other choral ensembles. He is also the director of the Wichita Children’s Choir. Organist and pianist Julie Warkentin accompanies the ensemble.
